The Pope is reported to have said a very homophobic slur, which I don’t think warrants space on my news feed. Of course he did, the Catholic Church (among many other religions) is responsible for promoting homophobia throughout the world for over a thousand years.
So, er, this is not news.
He’s reported to have said frociaggine, which I can only imagine translates into that word that shares its name with those cheap ugly meatballs.
I’ve never been called a homophobic slur (to my face), though I have been told I’m going to hell. No worries, I like being toasty.
I’m not saying that all Catholics are homophobic; some of them actually have a brain. That’s a joke, I don’t think many of them do.
No, in all seriousness. I don’t think that all religious people are homophobic, and not all homophobic people are religious. It all depends on who brought you up.
I’m always a little bit wary if someone was brought up with very religious parents, but thankfully I only associate myself with people who have a mind of their own. Though it is difficult to get rid of the values and opinions of our parents.
For example, I was brought up being told that people who read The Sun newspaper, vote Tory and watch Eastenders are scum of the earth. And I’m not saying that I still believe that, but I do still believe that.
But how people can still think that us gays aren’t normal is beyond me. Especially if we look at the current state of heterosexuality. Bill and Melinda Gates, married for 27 years – DIVORCED. Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, married for over 40 years – DIVORCED.
Even the wonderful reuniting of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck (which inspired thousands of people who still pine over their exes) is rumoured to be ending in… DIVORCE.
So, if we’re all fucked in the relationship department, it shouldn’t matter who we choose to bump uglies with and destroy our sanity.
Shouldn’t the big P.O.P.E and his fellow churchy gang be trying to make up for the horrendous things that they’ve done throughout history?
